Overview
The Assign Categories feature in Strato Storage offers improved file organization and navigation capabilities. With this feature, users and administrators can limit the number of categories per folder and assign default categories to selected files. By accessing the Folder Settings, users can specify the categories allowed for a folder using the Allowed Categories field. They can also designate a default category for files within the folder using the Default Category field. These enhancements aim to streamline file organization, simplify browsing, and ensure a more efficient file storage experience in Strato.
Functionality
The Assign Categories functionality paves the way for simplified browsing and structured organization of files and folders, particularly enabling users to perform the following actions:
- Set Allowed Categories for folders. The value for the Allowed Categories would then be used to validate files that are uploaded and moved to the folder.
- Set a Default Category to a folder, which will automatically be assigned to the files that will be uploaded to the folder.
Configurations
Assigning categories when creating folders can be done by following the steps below:
- For the Allowed Categories field:
1. After entering the folder's name and description, you have the option to select the allowed storage categories for the folder, which can be configured through the Allowed Categories field. To select the values, click the datasource button on the rightmost corner of the field.
2. You can find or search for the applicable categories through the search box or the navigation buttons at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
3. Tick the checkboxes of the categories you want to apply in your folder.
Note: You may select more than one category.
4. If you want to select all the system-generated category options, simply tick the checkbox next to the 'Name' column. This will automatically select all available categories in the system.
Note: Only existing categories will be assigned to the folder. Therefore, if a new category is added, it will not be included in the assigned categories of the created folder.
5. Click 'Apply' after selecting the allowed categories for the folder.
6. To view the Allowed Categories applied in the field, you can drag the values from right to left or vice versa. This may also be done through the arrow keys, once any value within the field is selected.
7. To delete a category from the selection, click the 'x' button located on the right side of the category value that you want to remove from the Allowed Categories list.
Note: If you choose not to select any values from the "Allowed Categories" field, the system will consider all current and future categories applicable to the folder. - For the Default Category field:
1. Under the Default Category field, if you select any value from the 'Allowed Categories', the first category selected will automatically be set as the Default Category. However, you can still change the Default Category if needed.
2. To change the current Default Category, click the datasource button on the rightmost section of the field.
3. The selection list for the Default Category will depend on the selected values from the Allowed Categories field.
4. If there are no selected values for the Allowed Categories field, you can choose from the complete list of categories in the system. Use the search bar to locate a Default Category from the system that you want to configure.
5. After selecting the desired Default Category for the folder, click 'Apply' to save the changes.
Note: The Default Category is a mandatory field and requires at least one category value to be assigned to the folder. - Follow these steps when modifying Assigned Categories to a folder:
1. From the folder details page, click the edit button located at the top-right corner of the screen.
2. With the Edit function, you have the option to change the Allowed Categories and the Default Category of the folder, similar to the process of assigning categories when creating a folder.
3. If you unassign the selected Default Category from the 'Allowed Categories' field, it will automatically be removed as the value of the Default Category field.
4. Use the search bar to identify a new category value to assign as the new Default Category.
5. After modifying the assigned categories in the two fields, click 'Apply'.
